JOVIE THE THERAPY DOG: Jovie, our Grief Therapy Dog, is one of our busiest workers! Grief Therapy Dogs have the ability to assist people with the grieving process. Their steady and unwavering companionship helps to provide consolation to family members, while the effects of stroking the fur of a serene dog can be incredibly comforting. Families being served by Caldwell & Cowan, Dogwood Hill Crematory, or Lawnwood Memorial Park may request that the Dog/Handler team come to either funeral home facility for added support.
Jovie's visits are not simply limited to a "final visit" at the funeral home or cemetery. Jovie loves to visit people of all ages, so Jovie and her Handler team offer a number of different ways for her to help others: --Nursing Home Visits --Hospice Visits --Hospital Visits
Jovie is always available to meet with a family that needs her services. However, not all facilities like visits from therapy animals. For this reason, permission for any visit to a nursing home, hospice, or hospital requires the authorization of the facility director.
Jovie currently visits Merryvale Assisted Living on a regular basis, and is always present at our Support Group Meetings. Jovie also visits a local elementary school and helps children who have reading difficulties. Children love to read to Jovie because she just listens and doesn't judge their abilities. This enables the child to become a more confident reader.
For the story about Jovie which appeared on Fox 5 News, please visit our Facebook page.
