Fred Lamar Bates

Fred Lamar Bates, of Covington, passed away Friday, January 5, 2024, at the age of 79. Mr. Bates was a member of Gaither’s Church where he was a Choir Director for nearly 30 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, singing, tinkering with things, going to auctions, and eating at his favorite restaurant El Charro. In addition, Mr. Bates liked spending time outside in his garden. He loved his family dearly and will be missed by all who knew him. Mr. Bates was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Jean Bates; son, Brent Lamar Bates; parents, Ted and Phena Bates; brother, Charles Bates; and sister, Betty Bates Smith.

Survivors include his daughter, Kristi Crumbliss (Paul); daughter-in-law, Wendy Bates; grandchildren, Brooke Lee Bates, Bethany Lee Bates, Savanna Leigh Crumbliss (Jeremy Rogers), Breanna Jean Bates Kines (Justin), Brenda Ansley Crumbliss (Jacob Walden); great-grandchildren, Elic Drayce Bates, Calvin Brent Kines.

A Funeral Service for Mr. Bates will be held Tuesday, January 9, 2024, 2:00 P.M., at Gaither’s Church, 1375 Newton Factory Bridge Road, in Covington, with Pastor Andy Parker officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the church, one hour prior to his service, from 1:00 – 2:00P.M.
