Gerald Dean

Gerald Dean, of Oxford, passed away Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the age of 62. Mr. Dean proudly served his country in the Army National Guard for 25 years before retiring. In addition, he retired from Georgia State University as a Contract Manager after 30 years. Mr. Dean grew up in Conyers where he was a 1978 graduate of Rockdale High School and a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church. He was an avid University of Georgia football fan and was always ready with a joke or a story to tell, Mr. Dean never met a stranger. He formed what came to be known as the John Higgins Memorial Golf Tournament, enjoying time with up to 24 friends playing multiple courses and rounds of golf around Myrtle Beach annually. Mr. Dean was preceded in death by his father, Richard Gerald Dean, Sr.

Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Cynthia Dean; daughter, Olivia Cox (Stephen); son, Marshall Dean (Jessica Andersen); grandsons, Nico Cox, Ari Cox; mother, Margaret Conn; sister, Renia Watson (John); brother, Joey Conn; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service for Mr. Dean will be held Thursday, June 15, 2023, 12 Noon, at Crossroad United Methodist Church, 2460 Highway 138 NE, in Conyers, with Pastor Thomas Hall officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the church, two hours prior to his service, from 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 Noon. Guests are encouraged to wear red or Georgia Bulldog apparel.
