Martha Williams

Martha Williams, of Covington, passed away Friday, February 3, 2023, at the age of 85. Mrs. Williams was an active member of Covington First United Methodist Church and the Edna Miller Group. She was employed at Sharp Middle School in the cafeteria where she was affectionally known as Miss Martha. She loved her students as much as she was beloved by them. Martha could not go anywhere in town without being recognized and accosted by her former students hailing “Miss Martha, Miss Martha… We love your mama”. Additionally, Mrs. Williams worked at Dairy Queen for many years. She was a heavily involved member of the Covington Lions Club with her husband, Jimmy. Mrs. Williams was an unwavering fan of the University of Georgia and enjoyed watching the Bulldogs play between the hedges. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Trammell Williams; and parents, John Gordon and Mary Frances Wofford.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Emily and Bob Gagne, of Bryson City, North Carolina; sons, Wade Williams, of Oxford, Gordon Williams, of Alpharetta; grandchildren, Jeff Lightsey, Richard Lightsey, Sarah Anne Williams and Joel Johnson, Noel Williams, Dovie Williams, Mary Hays Williams, Trammell (Tram) Williams, Corey Holloway, Jacob Lightsey, Jonah Lightsey; and great-grandchildren. Jayden Johnson, Isabella Johnson. Colton Johnson.

A Funeral Service for Mrs. Williams will be held Saturday, February 11, 2023, 1:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Mark Burgess officiating, and interment following in Social Circle City Cemetery, Lakewood Drive, in Social Circle. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home two hours prior to her service from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M.
