Agnes Ruth Mitchell Campbell sweetly transitioned on Saturday, October 26, 2019, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born January 23, 1934, in Montgomery, Alabama. Mrs. Campbell graduated from Alabama State University and furthered her education at the University of Denver. Mrs. Campbell reigned as Miss Alabama State University (1955) and was a lifetime member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She retired from the Birmingham School System as head librarian at Ensley High School. Mrs. Campbell was a devoted and supportive member of First Presbyterian Church in Covington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew C. Campbell; father and mother, Daniel W. and Amelia A. Mitchell; brother, Daniel W. Mitchell, Jr.; and sister, Louvenia Mitchell Sims.
Those who will lovingly remember Mrs. Campbell are her children, Gay G. Campbell, Andrew E. Campbell, both of Covington; sisters, Annie Loretta Griffin, Willodean M. Malden (Nelson), both of Montgomery, AL; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Campbell will be held Saturday, November 9, 2019, 12:00 Noon, at First Presbyterian Church, 1169 Clark Street SW, in Covington, with Rev. Kimmy Briggs and Rev. Louly F. Hay officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Covington.
