Al Omps of Monticello, passed away February 10, 2011, at the age of 81. Mr. Omps served as a Colonel in the United States Army for 29 years, which included his service in both Vietnam and Korea. He was a graduate of Virginia Tech, and a life-long Hokie fan! He loved to play golf, and enjoyed fishing and playing baseball. Mr. Omps was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Randal and Mildred Marie (Hovermale) Omps. Survivors include his wife, Cynthia (Saager) Omps, Monticello, sons and daughter-in-law, Richard and Gabrielle Omps of Duluth, Jonathan Omps of Atlanta A Memorial Service for Mr. Omps will be held Thursday, February 17, 2011, 2:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Dr. Jeff Meyers officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Thursday, from 1-2 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lion's Club, or to the food bank of your choice, in honor of Mr. Omps.
