Alfreda Elaine (Stewart) Prince, of Covington, Georgia peacefully passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at the age of 85.
Alfreda (Freda) was born in Sanford, N.C., where she received her general education before moving to Washington, D.C. She began her professional career as an employee of the Central Intelligence Agency and later retired from the United States Department of Treasury.
Freda enjoyed the outdoors including bird watching and gardening. Her favorite birds were Cardinals and Blue Jays which she nurtured with regular replenishment of her bird feeders. She also regularly watered her roses and garden landscape. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband, family, and exploring new places. In particular, she enjoyed trips to warm weather locations in the Caribbean and South America, as well as to Arizona to visit her great longtime friend, Marilyn. Freda was also a fantastic cook and baker. She made delicious meals and homemade cakes for family, friends, and church events.
Freda was a two-time breast cancer survivor of over 30 years and became an advocate for breast cancer awareness. She described herself as not just a survivor but an ‘overcomer’ because she overcame insurmountable odds to not just live but to thrive.
She will be remembered as loving, caring, and nurturing. She had a sense of humor that was revealed through her extensive collection of ceramic clowns all with smiling and funny faces. She also treasured her hand-curated Murano glass collection. Freda loved and enjoyed nothing more than her family, and the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, from the early years in the Washington, D.C. area to Palm Coast, Florida, to the latter years in Georgia. Freda had a relationship with God and enjoyed listening to uplifting music and reading the Bible.
Freda was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 65 years, Stacey Y. Prince, Jr.; parents, Majester Stewart, and Eunice Gunter Stewart; brother, William (Bill) Stewart, and sister, Blondeen Gravely.
Survivors include her sisters Brenda Perry and Sandra (Jerome) Thomas; her children Anthony (Dwana), Christopher (Sharon), Alexis, and Gregory Prince; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and dear friends.
