Allen Robinson, born July 21, 1945, in Atlanta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025, leaving behind a rich legacy of service, devotion to family, and a deep love for his community. Allen’s life was defined by his dedication to others and his commitment to excellence in everything he did. He touched countless lives through his work, family, and the love he gave to everyone around him.
A proud graduate of Roosevelt High School in Atlanta, Allen would later serve as the Chief ROTC Instructor. He also served as a deacon at Confederate Avenue Baptist Church. His leadership and mentorship impacted many young people throughout his life. In his professional career with the State of Georgia, Allen became known for printing the first food stamps, an accomplishment that showcased his tireless work ethic and attention to detail. He also became known for transporting a caravan of couples on trips to restaurants, a testament to his love for bringing people together.
Allen’s contributions to the state went beyond the food stamp program. In 1969, he famously carried money in a bag from the Governor’s office to the bank on Mitchell Street, all without guards, a true reflection of the trust and responsibility placed in him. His work in the Department of Administrative Services (DOAS) left an indelible mark, and after his retirement, he continued to be a devoted and loving partner to his wife, Ruth Watts Robinson.
Allen and Ruth’s shared love for flowers led them to start their own flower business, which they ran together for over 30 years. Allen became known for delivering floral arrangements in his unmarked Escalade, a vehicle that became as much a symbol of his dedication as his reputation for perfectionism. Known for preparing high-end floral arrangements, Allen took pride in ensuring that every arrangement was perfect, particularly for funerals and cemetery tributes. Their flower business, affectionately called "The Pretend Store," partnered with Lilith’s Wicker Shoppe on Salem Road, where Allen’s kindness, work ethic, and love for beautiful things were evident in everything he did.
Allen was a man who always put family first. He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Watts Robinson; nephews, Kenneth Watts, Gerald and Rosene Watts, Bruce and Mandy Watts; great nieces and nephews, Landan and Lacie Watts, Lauren and Austin Clark, Lisa and Nick Meltz, Candace and Chad Beck, Brecken Watts, and Braxton Watts; as well as four great-great nieces and nephews and many adopted sons and daughters.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Preston Robinson Sr.; his sister, Janice Robinson; and his nephew, Barry Watts. Allen’s legacy of hard work, service, and love will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by his generous spirit.
