Allen K. Nielsen

Allen K. Nielsen, of Oxford, passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at the age of 73. Mr. Nielsen was born September 3, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Barrington High School in 1968 and was a graduate of Georgia Southern College where he received his Bachelor of Science in Recreation. Mr. Nielsen was a long-time member of Gum Creek Presbyterian Church where he was an elder for many years and retired from DeKalb County Parks and Recreation. In addition, he was a P.E. teacher at Providence Classical Christian School, in Oxford, and a substitute teacher for Newton County. Mr. Nielsen loved helping children over the years and was a great role model for many kids. He was as near to perfect as a husband could be and will be remembered for the love and compassion that he shared with others. Mr. Nielsen was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold A. Nielsen and Virginia H. Nielsen.

Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Debbie Nielsen and his sister, Carol Light; brother, Gary Nielsen (Barbara); brother-in-law, Steve Lloyd; niece, Christie Light; nephew, John Lloyd.

A Memorial Service for Mr. Nielsen will be held Saturday, August 19, 2023, 2:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Becky Baker officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home Saturday, one hour prior to his service, from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M.
