Alton Kenneth Bruce, of Covington, GA, entered into his Heavenly home, Sunday morning August 4, 2013, after a brief stay at Abbey Hospice. He was 90. Mr. Bruce raised his family with his beloved wife, the late Jeanine Scott Bruce, in Avondale Estates, GA and worked in his land development and construction business in the Atlanta area. Later they moved to Americus, where Mr. Bruce enjoyed farm management and brokering peanuts and pecans. They moved from Americus to be near their children and grandchildren in Atlanta, settling in Covington.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Beau and Angie Bruce of Marietta, Mike and Brenda Bruce of Hilton Head Island, SC; daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanine and Larry Channell of Marietta, Joan and Jim Burkholder of Loganville; grandchildren, Daniel, Laura and husband, Jon, Chris, Nathan, Brooke, Ben, Kim and husband, Amos, Bruce, Matt, Kenneth, Michael; great-grandchildren, Lydia, Timothy, Titus; sister-in-law, Janet Scott of Unadilla, GA.
A Memorial Service for Mr. Bruce will be held Saturday, August 10, 2013, 12:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell and Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Abbey Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 68, Social Circle, GA 30025.
