Alton Howard Jordan, of Covington, passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at the age of 89. Mr. Jordan proudly served in the United States Army and was a member of East Newton Baptist Church where he served as deacon and taught Sunday School Class. He loved his church and would do anything they needed. Mr. Jordan was a dedicated Postman for over 30 years, a business owner for several years, and was a greeter at Walmart where he never met a stranger. In addition to being an Eagle Scout, he was also a Boy Scout Executive for many years. Mr. Jordan enjoyed cheering on his favorite team, the Georgia Bulldogs, and loved spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Helen Jordan; son, Larry Stanley Jordan; parents, Jessie Daniel and Merline Jordan; sisters, Sylvia Whitlock, Patsy Adams, brother, Raymond Jordan; mother-in-law and father-in-law, John Willie and Bonnie Griffeth; sister-in-law, Martha Ann Garrison; brothers-in-law, Joe Griffeth (JoNeal), Charles Griffeth, Kenneth Griffeth, Phil Griffeth;

Survivors include his daughter, Karen Morgan (Eric); grandchildren, Jeff Jordan (Amanda), Torri Morgan (Austin Turpin); great-grandchildren, Taylor Jordan, Chase Jordan; brother, Charles Jordan (Linda); sisters-in-law, Hariette Griffeth, Jackie Griffith; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service for Mr. Jordan will be held Sunday, January 23, 3:00 P.M., at East Newton Baptist Church, 11290 Highway 278 E., in Covington, with Pastor Danny Sorrells and Rev. Mike Hardy officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, Sunday, January 23, from 1:00 – 2:30 P.M. Flowers are accepted, or donations may be made to East Newton Baptist Church. The service will be live streamed by the church on their Facebook page for those who cannot attend the service.

Governor Brian Kemp’s latest executive order has eliminated restrictions on large gatherings; however, CDC guidelines recommend social distancing (6 feet apart) and wearing of masks while in public. Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home requests that you observe these recommendations while in our funeral home attending visitations and/or services.
