Alvin Hawkins

Alvin Hawkins, of Covington, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at the age of 93. Mr. Hawkins was a hard worker who provided for his family. He always held a second part-time job along with his regular full-time job and worked on lawnmowers at his home. Over the years, Mr. Hawkins worked for Perry Kirkland, Ferly Robinson, and Joel Haymoore, at their grocery stores, and Jack Christian at Firestone. He enjoyed watching football, boxing, and baseball – especially the Atlanta Braves. Mr. Hawkins would give the shirt off his back and was always willing to help those in need. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Hawkins; parents, Clarence and Mamie Hawkins; sister, Lena Vinings; and brothers, Robert Hawkins, Johnny Hawkins, Jack Hawkins, Billy Hawkins.

Survivors include his son, Cary and Shelia Hawkins; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service for Mr. Hawkins will be held Friday, January 13, 2023, 2:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rodney Stewart officiating and interment following in Oxford Historical Cemetery, Hwy 81, in Oxford. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home, two hours prior to his service, from 12 Noon – 2:00 P.M.
