Ardell Payne

Ardell Payne (Gran Gran) of Covington, passed away May 24, 2010, at the age of 83. He was employed by Bibb Manufacturing Company for 48 years, retiring as plant engineer. Mr. Payne was a lifetime member of The Gospel Tabernacle, and Elder Emeritus of Christ Cornerstone Church, in Covington. He was an avid camper and enjoyed traveling with his wife. They traveled to many states, and even once pulled their camper to Alaska. Mr. Payne enjoyed working in his vegetable garden, especially raising his tomatoes. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great grandfather. Mr. Payne was preceded in death by his parents, Ottis Ardell and Eva (Jones) Payne. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Rachael (Baugh) Payne of Covington; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Ann Payne of Covington, Randy and Cathy Payne of Eatonton, Darrell and Gracie Payne, David and Valorie Payne, all of Covington; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby and Barbara Payne of Conyers, Jimmy and Bertha Payne of Covington; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Mr. Payne will be held Wednesday, May 26, 2010, 11:00 AM, at Christ Cornerstone Church, in Covington, with Pastor Darrell Payne and Pastor David Payne officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Rd., Tuesday, May 25, from 5-8 PM.
