Arthur Floyd Ellis, Sr., of Oxford, passed away July 5, 2015, at the age of 93. Mr. Ellis was born February 2, 1922, in Walton County, to the late Noah and Margie Ellis. He was a World War II veteran, having proudly served with the 2nd Army under the command of General George S. Patton. After discharge from the Army, he attended Agriculture School and became a cotton farmer in northern Newton County. He met and married his wife of 65 years, Ilene Bell Ellis, from Conyers, and together they raised four children. After his farming career, Mr. Ellis worked for Henson Furniture and Wood-Dickinson Furniture, before retiring from Covington Furniture Company at the age of 70. He and his family faithfully attended Walnut Grove Baptist Church for many years. Affectionately known as "Pop", he was a very loving, hardworking, kind-hearted and generous man. Mr. Ellis was the patriarch of four generations of his family. He was deeply loved by his family and all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James Ellis, JB Ellis, Henry Ellis; sister, Emma Hood; granddaughters, Brandie Nicole Ellis, Lori Ellis; son-in-law, Jimmy Jones.

Survivors include his wife, Ilene Ellis; children and their spouses, Shirley Jones, Janet and Roy Frix, Floyd "Jr." and Freddie Ellis, Barbara and Terry Johnson; 16 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Ellis will be held Wednesday, July 8, 2015, 2:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Kenny Dockins and Brion Frix officiating. Interment will follow in Ellis Family Cemetery, in Oxford, with Rev. Todd Heil officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, July 7, from 5:00 - 8:00 PM. Flowers are accepted, or contributions in his memory may be made to Walnut Grove Baptist Church - Building Fund, 2541 Leone Avenue, Loganville, GA 30052.
