Barbara Ann Schemmel

Barbara Ann Schemmel, of Newborn, passed away February 27, 2014, at the age of 50. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her job as a bus driver for the Newton County School System. Barbara was a metastatic breast cancer survivor for 10 years and active in Newton County Relay of Life. She was also an active member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Joan James.

Survivors include her husband of 26 years, Russ Schemmel; daughter and son-in-law, Becca and T.J. Pickens of Mansfield; grandchildren, Joseph and Aubrie Pickens; brother and sister-in-law, Rick and Karen James; niece, Erin James; nephews, Lee James and Adam James.

A Memorial Mass for Barbara will be held Saturday, March 8, 2014, 1:00 PM at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Flowers accepted, or contributions may be made in her memory to the Newton County Relay for Life Team, Big Wheel Cruisers in care of American Cancer Society, 1684 Barnett Shoals Road, Athens, Georgia, 30606.
