Bill Scoggins of Porterdale, passed away May 26, 2014, at the age of 79. SSgt. Scoggins, a United States Air Force Navigator, served his country proudly between the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He served four years on active duty, and eight additional years, on reserve duty, at Dobbins Air Force Base. He retired, in 2012, from DeKalb County School System after 33 years of dedicated service. Mr. Scoggins has been a member of The Potter's House since 2003. He often spoke to various churches about his trips to Israel, and was always sure to emphasize the importance of Israel. He was a member of the Newton Radio Control Flyers, and designed and built his own radio controlled planes without the use of a kit. Mr. Scoggins was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was loved, and will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Willie Ann (Wallace) Scoggins.
Survivors include his wife, Jane (Bowen) Scoggins; daughters and sons-in-law, Angie and Rev. Tim Walden, Katie and Tim Cannon, all of Covington; grandchildren, Timothy Walden, Jessica and Chris Bowles, Anastasia Cannon, Shae Cannon; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jeanette and Jerry Yarbrough of Monroe, Nita and Steve Casper of Winder; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Scoggins will be held Thursday, May 29, 2014, 2:00 PM, at The Potter's House, with Pastor Sammy Williamson, Rev. Ricky Bradford and Rev. Tim Walden officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church, Wednesday, May 28, from 6:00 - 9:00 PM. Flowers are accepted, or donations may be made to The Potter's House, 1120 Crowell Road, Covington, GA 30016.
