Brenda Cofer Shackelford-Simpson

Access RoadBrenda Cofer Shackelford-Simpson, of Stockbridge, died March 29, 2010, at Henry Medical Center, at the age of 64. Daughter of the late Cecil C. and Margaret Heath Cofer, she was a devout Christian. Ms. Simpson had been employed as the secretary to Governor Carl Sanders for 2 years and to Secretary of State Ben Fortson for 4 years. She was a Court Appointed Special Advocate and also worked as a substitute teacher and volunteer in the Newton County School System. Ms. Simpson was a loving wife, mother, and  grandmother who loved and supported her family her whole life. Survivors include daughter, Haley Shackelford of Stockbridge; son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Cindy Ledford of Stockbridge; grandchildren, Ethan Ledford, Addison Ledford; sister, Vickie Cofer Caines of Mt. Olive, NC; several nieces and nephews; and two dogs, Patrick and Zoe. Funeral services for Ms. Simpson will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2:00 PM, at the chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, Covington, with Adam Cooper, Celebrant, officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 30, from 6-8 PM.
