Charles "Chic" Gilsten of Covington, passed away August 21, 2014, at the age of 71. Mr. Gilsten attended Miami Dade College, in Florida. Following his parents death, he operated the Monarch Wine Co., which they had founded in 1960, and was known for their King Cotton Peach Wine. Additionally, Mr. Gilsten worked for himself in commercial real estate. He enjoyed going to Lake Lanier and racing his speed boat which could reach speeds of 115 MPN. Mr. Gilsten took pride in taking care of himself, and did so by working out and eating healthy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Renee (Prozan) Gilsten.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Ruby (Wendy) Gilsten; children and their spouses, Charlie Newton Gilsten and his wife, Heather Danielle Gilsten, Ardinell Renee "Nell" Marie and her husband, Gene Marie, all of Springfield, MO, Natalie Wynn Gilsten of St. Louis, MO, Michael Johnathon Gilsten of Covington, GA; and his grandson, Quentin Colter Bean of Springfield, MO.
Funeral Services for Mr. Gilsten will be held Sunday, August 24, 2014, 1:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Adam Cooper officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, August 23, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Interment will be held in Memorial Gardens Cemetery, in Buffalo, MO, at a later date.
