Curtis C. Davenport of Covington, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at the age of 81. A former resident of Henry County, Mr. Davenport lived in Newton County since 1971, and was a member of Grace Baptist Church in McDonough. As co-owner of a heating and air conditioning company, he always looked after his customers, often helping those who could not afford his services. In his younger years, he was a drag racer, an avid NASCAR fan, and built racecars in the 50's, 60's, and 70's. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ophelia Henderson Davenport; mother, Louise C. Stone, father, Oscar C. Davenport; granddaughter, Alexandria Davenport; son-in-law, Carl Harrell; and eight siblings.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine Owens and Paul Stevenson, Wanda Mitchell and Jimmy Brown, Gale and Don Bender; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Gwen Davenport, Tim and Cindy Davenport; twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and special friend and caregiver, Tiny McCart.
A Funeral Service for Mr. Davenport will be held Friday, January 25, 2019, 11:00 A.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Tim Davenport and Pastor Zack Nipper officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home, Thursday, January 24, from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M.
