Daphne Olivene Downie

August 22, 1939 — July 15, 2024

Daphne Olivene Downie (August, 22nd 1939-July, 15th 2024) was called home to be with her Savior.

Daphne was predeceased by her parents, Egbert George and Doris Maud Downie(Bennett) and one of her brothers, Neville Gladstone Orlando Downie (G), as he was called. She was the eldest of 5 children. She is survived by: (Sister) Colleen Patricia Downie-Duncan(Bill), (Brother) Derrick Newton Downie (Rosie) and (Sister) Dawn Elizabeth Downie- Iyekekpolor (Daniel). Several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

After leaving Ardenne High School, Jamaica, W.I. Daphne worked in the Retail industry and later as a Manager for an Auto Supply company. She was an ardent and diligent worker. She remained with her parents and assisted them in their time of need. Caring for them tirelessly, until their passing Daphne was a devout Christian and was very active in The Church of God, Jamaica W.I. She was also a member in the Renowned University Singers Choir.

Daphne then relocated to the US, where she joined other family members. She continued with her religious activities and became a member of the Bronx Bethany Church of the Nazarene, N.Y. where she remained very involved.
During this time she cared for others who needed her assistance. Her greatest joy, however, was in helping (Chris F) to raise and take care of her then, infant son (Greg D) who she referred to as her 'Baby'. That bond was never broken.

Daphne, usually spent Christmases with her younger sister, Dawn (Betty) and Daniel, in Covington, Atlanta, G.A. She was responsible for baking the Jamaican Christmas Fruit Cake and making the Sorrell drink. A Jamaican favourite. She also baked delicious Sweet Potato Puddings. This gift she inherited from her Mom.

After leaving New York City, Daphne relocated to Covington, G.A, to join her younger sister, Dawn (Betty) and Daniel. They shared a joyful time together, including Betty taking her to the local Nursery to purchase plants and teaching her how to plant them when they returned home. She thoroughly enjoyed the gardening experience. She admired the plants as they started flowering and even commented to Betty, they looked like they needed watering.

Well, as mentioned, earlier, CHRIS F. and GREG D. are with us today. Greg is graduating from the Naval Academy, this month. Daphne was to be part of this celebration. However, today we're celebrating her life.

Daphne, you will be truly missed, but your special place is waiting for you in Heaven.
