Donald Lee Whitmer

Access RoadDonald Lee Whitmer, a resident of Redan for 45 years, passed away May 6, 2010, at the age of 72. He retired from General Motors - Lakewood Plant after 33 years. Mr. Whitmer served in the U.S. Army for 3 years, one of those while serving overseas in Germany. He attended The Baptist Tabernacle¸ in Covington. He loved his family dearly and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed reading and listening to gospel music. Mr. Whitmer was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Jacob and Bessie Mae (Bradshaw) Whitmer. Survivors include his loving wife, Mary Claire (Colquitt) Whitmer; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Tony Burnett of McDonough; sons and daughters-in-law, Danny Lee and Debbie Whitmer, Kenneth Whitmer, all of Redan, Bobby and Kathy Whitmer of Lilburn, David Whitmer of McDonough, Darren and Lynn Whitmer of Stockbridge, Danny Ray and Sarah Beth Whitmer of Covington; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Steve Fowler of Chatham, IL; grandchildren, Amber and her husband, Derrick, Justin and his wife, Tiffany, Shellie and her fiancé, Brandon, Christy, Kyle, Craig, Alex, Johnathan, Adam, James, Brittany, Dawson; great-grandchildren, Zoe, Hayden, Samuel, Preslee, Emilia, Aiden, Austin; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Mr. Whitmer will be held Saturday, May 8, 2010, 4:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, with Dr. David Moody officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Friday, May 7, from 6-8 PM.
