Doris Marie Highsmith, of Covington, passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at the age of 83. Mrs. Highsmith obtained an associate degree in theatre from Sea Gull School in Gulfport, Mississippi, class of 1958. She was voted most talented during her senior year and was a heavily involved member of the Phi Theta Kappa Fraternity, and served as secretary treasurer. Additionally, she was a member of the Court May Society. Mrs. Highsmith enjoyed acting in her younger years. She had a considerable interest in history, and her studies focused heavily on southern history and reading about the Antebellum period. In addition to history, Mrs. Highsmith also enjoyed studying genealogy. When she was not working on her studies, Mrs. Highsmith enjoyed working on cross stitching. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Randolph Highsmith.
Mrs. Highsmith is survived by her daughters, Christie Dunn Osborn, Terri Montgomery, Susan Elaine Highsmith; her sons, Brett Eric Highsmith, Jon Highsmith, Brian Dunn; 4 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service for Mrs. Highsmith will be held Thursday, May 27, 2021, 3:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home one hour prior to her service from 2:00 P.M. – 3:00 P.M.
