Dorothy D. Smith of Covington, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2020, at the age of 90. Mrs. Smith was a lifelong resident of Newton County and graduate of Porterdale High School. She attended High Point Baptist Church where she served as the financial secretary for 19 years. Mrs. Smith spent a dedicated 20 years working for the United States Post Office where she served at several locations over the years including Covington, Oxford and Porterdale. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Nina (Brooks) Day; granddaughter, Katie Mobley; grandson, Alex Smith; sister, Sarah Corder; brother, James Carl Day.

Survivors include her loving husband of 70 years, Al Smith; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Mary Smith, Joey and Gay Smith; grandchildren, Rick Smith, Robin Gilbert, Travis Smith, Josh Smith, Sarah McTyre, Hannah McTyre; great-grandchildren, Brittany Smith, Chase Smith, Jesse Gilbert, Logan Gilbert, Gentrie Mobley, Gannon Mobley, Briggs Smith, Allie Smith; great-great-grandson, Hunter Bessiere; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service for Mrs. Smith will be held Friday, January 17, 2020, 11:00 A.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor T.J. Bennett and Pastor Tommy Fountain officiating. Interment will follow in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home, Thursday, January 16, from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. Flowers are accepted, or donations may be made to the High Point Baptist Building Fund, 12025 Highway 36, Covington, GA 30014.
