Douglas Neal Brown, affectionately known as Doug to friends and family, passed away on December 24, 2024, at the age of 83, in Covington, Georgia. Born on October 6, 1941, in Galesburg, Illinois, to the late Ellen (Sundvall) and Floyd Brown. Doug’s life was an embodiment of kindness, warmth, and friendliness that radiated to all who were fortunate enough to cross his path. Doug had an incredible marriage with his loving wife Betty for 31 years. A devoted partner, father, and grandfather, he was a central figure in his family's life. His heart and home were always open, filled with stories and laughter, providing a comforting presence that his loved ones will deeply miss. His legacy carries on through his family he is predeceased by his grandchild Adam Durden and his former spouses Linda Lindburg Young Brown, Betty Ann Brown as well as his three siblings, Ronnie Brown (Patsy) of Milan, IL, Nancy Dunlap (Larry ) of Milan, Il, and Peter David Brown. Doug is survived by his dear siblings: his brother Terry Brown (Doris) of North Ft. Meyers Beach, FL; sister Judy Barton (Gary) of Alpha, IL. His step-children—Bob Young, Cindy Young of Rock Island, IL, Vicki and Johnny Moon, Randy and Milinda Durden, Billy and Shelly Durden his grandchildren Libby Hall, John David Moon, Jason Durden, Kane Pass, Kaleb Pass, and Caroline Patel, along with twelve great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews Angela Brown, David Brown, Jeffrey Brown, Brenda Carver, Rick Brown, Randy Brown, Sheri Brown, Todd Dunlap, Gail McNiece, and Erica Thorstenson. and his special friend Marsha Brown. will continue to be inspired by his life's stories and values. A graduate of Winola High School in Viola, IL, in 1960, Doug was a formidable football player during his teenage years. His passion for activity and adventure was evident in his involvement with the Scouts, where he enjoyed camping and later shared his love of the outdoors with others. He possessed a deep appreciation for nature and could often be found boating on the Mississippi River, creating memories and imparting his wisdom. Following high school, Doug honorably served in the Army for two years at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Afterward, he forged a long and respected career with John Deere Parts Depot. He began his tenure in East Moline, IL, before transferring to the Conyers, GA division. Doug retired after many dedicated years of service, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and commitment. Throughout his life, Doug harbored a love for firearms and indulged in his passion for history by enjoying the Civil War era. His interests also led him to frequent antique car shows, immersing him in the world of classic elegance that he so admired. Doug Brown was the epitome of a life well-lived. His unwavering devotion to family and friends, his deep-rooted kindness, and his friendly demeanor made him an unforgettable soul to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His remarkable life story will be told and retold by those who loved him, keeping his spirit alive for generations to come. Doug's journey on earth may have ended, but his influence will persist, like a light that refuses to dim. He will be dearly remembered and forever cherished in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.
A Celebration of Life for Doug will be held Sunday, December 29, 2024, 3:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Scott Fuss officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home Sunday December 29, 2024, from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M.
