Ellen Christian Helms

Ellen Christian Helms, passed away at her home, Friday, December 2, 2022, at the age of 76. Born in Macon, Georgia, Ellen moved to Covington as a young child and always called it home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Betty Christian; husband, T.J. “Jerry” Helms, III; son, T.J. “Jerry” Helms, IV; granddaughter, Hannah Helms; and brothers, Wallace Christian, Greg Christian.

Bubbles as she was affectionately known by family and friends, loved her family fiercely. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy, and she was excited for the anticipated marriage next year of her granddaughter, Olivia, and the upcoming birth of a great-grandson from her granddaughter, Mallory.

Ellen worked as a registered nurse for 30-plus years in the area of OB/GYN, operating room supervision at Newton County Hospital, and finally retiring as a clinical supervisor from Clinical Arts Home Care Services in 1997.

Though retired, Ellen never lost her desire to serve. She served tirelessly as her neighborhood HOA president for many years. Even after retiring from that role, she remained actively involved in the day-to-day happenings of her neighborhood and friends.

Ellen is survived by her brother, Tim Christian (Phyllis); daughter, Dawn Helms Dalton; daughter-in-law, Pepper Helms. Surviving grandchildren are Olivia Dalton (Fiancé Avery Cheek), Hayden Helms, Mallory Helms McMichael (Brady), and Hope Helms, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family would like to especially thank the care team of Sacred Journey Hospice. Each of the caregivers loved and served this family in the most difficult days.

A Memorial Service for Mrs. Helms will be held Thursday, December 8, 2022, 2:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Vicki Chesney officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home, two hours prior to her service, from 12:00 Noon – 2:00 P.M. Flowers are welcome.
