Eloise Crawford Polk Sherod

Eloise Crawford Polk Sherod, a lifelong resident of Newton County, passed away February 26, 2023, at the age of 101 from natural causes. Mrs. Sherod enjoyed shopping for bargains in local stores; working in her garden in years past; and, spending time with her family, especially her sister, Elsie Holder, and her sister-in-law, Barbara Crawford. Also, as long as she was able she enjoyed attending the First Baptist Church of Covington. Prior to her first husband's death in 1970, they operated a dairy farm known as Riverbend because of its location on the Yellow River just West of Covington. At its peak the farm had 78 milk cows; and, while it is no longer active, Mrs. Sherod resided in the same house on the farm for her entire adult life.

Eloise had slowed down (a little) but looked 54, felt 18, and acted 28. She continued to wake up every day with a smile on her face and a positive attitude. Her nephew, Mike Johnson, used to joke that Eloise would outlive all of them to other family members; however, as the years went by, she had made a believer out of him. She made it to 101, just a few months shy of turning 102.

Mrs. Sherod was preceded in death by her husbands, Bill Sherod and J.T. Polk; parents, Harvey and Quida Crawford; brothers, Raburn, Monta, Robert and Wallace Crawford; and, sisters, Elsie Holder, Evelyn Holder and her husband, Russell. Survivors include her brothers, Gary Crawford and his wife Karen and Edward Crawford, Sr. as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service for Mrs. Sherod will be held Saturday, March 4, 2023, 2:00 P.M., at Lawnwood Memorial Park, 1111 Access Road, in Covington, with Dr. Cody McNutt officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family Saturday, March 4, from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M., at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington.
