Access RoadEmma Frances Harper, 90, of Covington, GA, went to be with her Lord and Savior, January 5, 2012. Born in 1921, to the late Lillian and George Roberts of Whitesburg, GA, Ms. Emma and her family persevered through the hardships of the depression and WWII. After moving to Hueytown, AL, she performed many man-sized jobs, as males served their country in war. An early marriage, a growing family, and moving frequently, she settled in Avondale Estates, GA, to build her dream home. As her love and devotion to God grew, she hosted weekly home bible study groups for Peachcrest Baptist Church for 27 years. Her mission trips to England were among her favorite memories, along with her ever present Garden Club activities. In latter years, she relocated to the Jackson Lake area of Newton County. Her calling to teach and mentor the Faith class, Red Oak United Methodist Church, for nearly 20 years, was tremendously successful and rewarding. She is preceded in death by her husband, Glen Harper; youngest daughter, Glenda Harper Strange; and her seven siblings. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Ken Beavers of Covington, Joyce and Wayne McDonald of Monticello; a special niece, Judy Owens of Hueytown, AL; grandchildren, Ken Beavers, Jr., Wayde Beavers, Joi Hall, Christy Gambina, Martin McDonald, Mike McDonald, Matt McDonald, Keith Smith, Eli Jones, Pete Jones; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; along with numerous relatives in the Whitesburg, GA, and Hueytown, AL, areas.Funeral Services will be held Monday, January 9, 2012, 2:00 PM, at Red Oak United Methodist Church, in Covington, with Rev. Miguel Vélez officiating, and interment following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, Sunday, January 8, from 6:00-8:00 PM. Flowers are accepted, or donations may be made to Red Oak Methodist Cemetery; or Recycled Teenagers, c/o Red Oak United Methodist Church, 15105 Highway 36 S, Covington, GA 30014.
