Emma Jean Lewis

Emma Jean Lewis of Porterdale, passed away December 4, 2011 at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle. She was 93 years of age at the time of her death. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Onree Lewis; daughter, Brenda Jean Bates; grandson, Brent Bates; and parents, Charles Victor and Rosie Beatrice (Martin) Smith. Mrs. Lewis enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and quilting.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Edward Gary and Gail Lewis of Covington, Thomas Gerald and Faye Lewis of Mansfield; 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild; sister, Betty James of Decatur; brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Faye Smith of Covington; son-in-law, Fred Bates of Covington; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Lewis will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road in Covington, with Rev. Herman Goddard and Pastor Lawrence Lockett officiating Interment will follow in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, December 6, from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M.
