Emmett Lee Chapman, of Porterdale, passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at the age of 95. Born to the late Henry and Pearl (Thomason) Chapman, Mr. Chapman was one of 13 children, that have all passed except his sister, Mattie Cook. He was a lifelong resident of Porterdale where he worked at Bibb Manufacturer for over 40 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, making Jesus blocks (which he felt was his ministry for God) and other woodworking projects, as well as making tinmen and snowmen out of tin cans. Mr. Chapman loved making syrup, a family tradition that that started in 1919, and ended just short of 100 years. (He was always upset that his family did not make it to 100 years.) He lived his life for his family and grandchildren and loved them dearly. Mr. Chapman was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Pearl (Thomason) Chapman; son, Charles Bagley.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children and their spouses, Judy and Robert Qualls (also his caretakers), Debra and Keith Robinson, Vickie Self, Sherrie Davenport, William Bagley, Amanda and Joey Mericle; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
A Memorial Service for Mr. Chapman will be held Sunday, May 9, 2021, 2:00 P.M., at Gospel Mission Church, 755 Almon Road, in Covington.
