Frances Braselton Gregory of Covington, wife of the late, Robert J. Gregory and a dedicated school teacher, church, and civic leader, passed away January 21, 2012, at the age of 93. Born in 1918, at Pendergrass, GA, she was the daughter of the late Walter Webster and Frances Emmaline Harrison Braselton. She graduated from Lander College, in 1939, having majored in Education in preparation for a teaching career. She later did graduate study at Emory University.Mrs. Gregory began her teaching career in the Berrien County Schools at Enigma High School, in Home Economics, 1939-1942. In 1942-43, she taught at the High School, in Central, SC, and in 1943-44, taught at the Jasper City Schools, in Jasper, FL. She married Robert J. Gregory on March 18, 1944. After moving to Atlanta, she continued her teaching career, in 1969, with the City of Atlanta Schools at the former Williams Street School and the Spring Street School for 18 years, before retiring in 1978. She was a member of the Association of Retired Educators of the Atlanta City Schools and the Georgia Retired Educators Association. Mrs. Gregory served as President of the Cereus Garden Club in Atlanta, 1964-1968. After moving to Covington, she served ten years as President of the Oxford Women's Club, 1987-1997. As a member of Allen Memorial United Methodist Church, in Oxford, Mrs. Gregory served as President of the United Methodist Women, 1970-1982, and as Vice-President for many years. She was Zone Leader of the Atlanta-Decatur-Oxford District for ten years. She was a member of the Manning Bible Class at the Allen Memorial Methodist Church.Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Robert Julian, Jr., and Lynn House Gregory of Covington; several nieces and nephews.A Funeral Service to celebrate her life will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2012, 11:00 AM, at Allen Memorial United Methodist Church, in Oxford, with Rev. Max Vincent and Rev. Tom Johnson officiating, and interment following in Oxford Historical Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, Monday, January 23, from 6:00-8:00 PM.
