Frances Harris Lunsford

Frances Harris Lunsford, age 98, of Covington, Georgia, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2025. She was born on August 23, 1926, in Milledgeville, Georgia, to Ivey Lee Harris and Nora Lee Kilgore. 

Frances was a beloved educator, known affectionately as “Mrs. Frances” by her students. She taught kindergarten for 20 years at Jack and Jill, the Little Red School House, and in Porterdale, where her warmth and dedication left a lasting impact on all those who were fortunate to be in her care. Her love for children was matched only by her deep affection for senior adults, a community she cherished and cared for throughout her life. 
Beyond her career, Frances found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was passionate about her garden, especially her flowers, and loved spending time nurturing her beautiful yard. 

Frances was also a devoted member of Oxford Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for 16 years. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and her commitment to teaching and serving others was an example to all who knew her. 

Frances is preceded in death by her parents, Ivey Lee Harris and Nora Lee Kilgore; her beloved husband, Harold Lunsford; and her brother, Walter Harris. She is survived by her two wonderful children, Becky (Tollie) Lunsford Martin of Oxford, Georgia, and Kenneth (Rose) Lunsford of Gainesville, Georgia. Frances also leaves behind her grandsons, Trevor Lunsford and Matthew Lunsford, as well as her siblings: Anne Andrews, Lucille (Ernest) Dial, and George Harris. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, all of whom will dearly miss her presence in their lives. 

Frances was a kind, loving, and dedicated woman who touched the lives of many. Her legacy of service, compassion, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. 

Frances’s memory will forever be cherished by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.

A Funeral Service for Mrs. Frances will be held Monday, March 31, 2025, 1:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Dr. Alan Posey officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park, in Covington. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home, Sunday, March 30, from 3:00 - 5:00 P.M.
