Fred M. Spivey of Covington, passed away Monday, March 13, 2023, at the age of 86. Mr. Spivey was a veteran of both the United States Air Force and the South Carolina Army National Guard, where he was a distinguished helicopter pilot. After his service to the nation, he worked as a Police Officer in North Augusta South Carolina and went on to serve as a Trooper in the South Carolina Highway Patrol. After moving to Georgia, he went to work for the Louisville & Nashville Railroad Company where he eventually became a Train Engineer. An avid music lover he played the guitar, banjo, piano, and was a Blue Grass fiddler player of some renown on the festival circuit in the southeast.
Mr. Spivey was preceded in death by his son, Michael Spivey; parents James and May Spivey; siblings Cornelia and James.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years Jo Spivey; sons Jerry Spivey, Andy Mooney, and Ricky Mooney; daughter, Rhonda Spivey Garner; 9 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Service for Mr. Spivey will be held Saturday, March 25, 2023, 2:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Perry Kirk officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home on Friday, March 24, from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M.
