Gerald "Jerry" Butler Loyd

Gerald "Jerry" Butler Loyd, of Covington, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at the age of 86. Mr. Loyd was born in Henry County and grew up in Ola and Rocky Plains. He proudly served the United States in the Army National Guard. Mr. Loyd was in the propane business for over 50 years and was co-owner of Loyal Gas. He was a member of Stewart Baptist Church and attended Berean Baptist Church. In his spare time, Mr. Loyd loved to fish and especially enjoyed going to Santee Cooper, South Carolina to fish. Visiting all 50 states, his favorite place to visit was Washington DC. In addition, Mr. Loyd loved his job and enjoyed cutting grass. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Irwin and Julia Loyd; brothers, Jay Loyd, Hiram Loyd; and previous wife, Sara N. Loyd.

 Survivors include his wife, Sarah Loyd; children, Mark Allen (Debbie), Debra Mason (Alton); grandchildren, Lawrence Mason (Dawn), Marshall Mason, Stephanie Hirth (Joseph), Tamela Bell, Wil Allen (Megan), Jonathan Cowan, David Cowan (Carolyn); great-grandchildren, Nicholas, William, Morgan, Easton, Savannah, Abbey, Logan, Adriana, Alyssa, Natalie, Caleb, Aubrey; step-children, Bill Burnett (Teresa), Darrel Burnett (Gina), Belinda Rowe (Ken); step-grandchildren; multiple step-great-grandchildren; as well as other loving family members. 

 A Funeral Service for Mr. Loyd will be held Thursday, July 25, 2024, 3:00 P.M. at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Jonathan Banks, Pastor Chris Mitchell and Pastor Jerry Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home Thursday, prior to his service, from 1:30 – 3:00 P.M.
