Gloria Ann Dougherty

Gloria Ann Dougherty, age 81, of Conyers, Georgia went to be with our heavenly Father on Saturday, October 7, 2023. Gloria was born on April 8, 1942 to Ida Cooper Fortier and Wilbur Jerome Fortier of Detroit, Michigan. As a child, Gloria enjoyed taking ballet classes.

As an adult, Gloria enjoyed spending time with friends, reading, gardening, traveling, attending the performing arts, cross-stitch, being a Girl Scout leader, and collecting art and crystal items. A generous and loving mother, Gloria went to great lengths to make special memories for everyone around her. From handmade birthday cakes and handsewn Halloween costumes for her young children to beach trips and adventures to places such as NYC and Europe. She especially enjoyed trips to the happiest place on earth, Disney World, and sailing on a Disney Cruise.

It was extremely important to Gloria that everyone be made welcome in her home. Christmas was a particularly special time as she would deck the halls, fill the air with music, and surround the tree with lots of gifts topped with handmade bows. It was important to her that everyone had their favorite dish at the Christmas table and gifts under the tree.

In 2007 after Gloria retired from her support role at McMullan and Company, she enjoyed following the Atlanta Braves, and traveling far and wide to attend Johnny Mathis concerts.

Gloria is survived by her husband, Michael James Dougherty; her two children, Kristina Dawn Caffrey (Michael) and Donald H. Butland, III; her step-daughter Brittany Dougherty; her grandchildren Donald H. Butland IV and Sophie Claire Caffrey; step-granddaughter Madeline Claire Caffrey; step-great-grandson, William Dougherty; her sister by heart Carol Bailey; dear family friend Rose Wessely; and former spouse, Donald H. Butland, II.

While our hearts are broken that she’s gone, we know that she’s looking after all of us from heaven, alongside her parents and loved ones that have gone before her.

Services will be held at Caldwell and Cowan Funeral Home on Friday, October 20, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in memory of Gloria.
