Helen W. Slay of Conyers, passed away October 18, 2010, at the age of 78. Mrs. Slay was born in Jesup, Georgia, to the late E.A. and Adeline (Doster) Walker, and moved to Hayden, Alabama at an early age. She attended Auburn University, and taught at both Hayden and Warrior elementary schools. Mrs. Slay worked for several general contractors, including Wilborn Construction Company; and retired from Hoar Construction Company in 1988. She was an active member of Conyers Presbyterian Church, an ordained Elder, and held various offices within the church. Mrs. Slay, along with her husband, Ben, loved to travel in their motor home, and had visited every state except Hawaii. She was an avid Auburn Tigers fan, loved to follow the Atlanta Braves, and enjoyed college sports in general. Mrs. Slay loved her family dearly, and was very proud of them. Survivors include her loving and devoted husband of 54 years, Ben K. Slay of Conyers; daughter and son-in-law, Rob and Michelle Slay Shepherd of Conyers; son and daughter-in-law, Timothy B. and Rebecca M. Slay of Mooresville, NC; sister and brother-in-law, Martha (Pete) and James B. Leslie of Hanceville, AL; grandchildren, Chandler and Heidi Shepherd, Sarah and Ben Walker Slay; nephews, Byron and Pam Leslie, Rev. Howard and Lacrecia Leslie; great nieces and nephews, Aliya Leslie, Alex Leslie, DJ Leslie, Brayden Leslie. A Memorial Service for Mrs. Slay will be held Friday, October 22, 2010, 11:30 AM, at Conyers Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Tom Sparks officiating. The family will receive friends at the church, Thursday, October 21, from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Conyers Presbyterian Church, PO Box 39, Conyers, GA 30012.
