Access RoadHerman Hegwood of Covington, passed away January 26, 2011, at the age of 83. Mr. Hegwood was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II as a military police officer. He attended Lorraine Assembly of God, in Stockbridge; and retired from C&D Batteries, in Conyers. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, working on small engines, singing, and playing the guitar. Mr. Hegwood loved evangelizing and ministering to the nursing homes and churches. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Lee (Dunevent) Hegwood; daughter, Catherine Phyllis Hegwood; parents, Arthur and Florence (Waters) Hegwood; grandson, Tony Butler, Jr.; great-granddaughter, Brittany Jordan. Survivors include his daughters and son-in-law, Ann Butler of Palmetto, GA, Rachel and Steve Williams of Monroe; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Melinda Hegwood of Social Circle, John and Harriet Hegwood of Dacula, Noel and Jimmie Hegwood of Covington; sister, Eula Clemmons of Ellaville; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Mr. Hegwood will be held Saturday, January 29, 2011, 11:00 AM, at Lorraine Assembly of God, with Pastor Joe Kerbow, Rev. James McElreath, and Rev. Lynn Head officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Rd., in Covington, from 6-9 PM.
