Illa Mae Stone, of Oxford, passed away March 25, 2021, at the age of 84. She was a devout Christian, and member of Gaithers Methodist Church. Additionally, Illa Mae and her sisters cofounded a gospel singing group and called themselves Reed Sisters. She enjoyed crocheting and fishing; and also took joy in attending Braves games. Mrs. Stone had a big heart and loved her family. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ray Stone; parents, Boyd Thomas and Elizabeth Reed; daughters, Teresa Mask, and Rita Smith.
Her memory will be cherished dearly by faithful companion, Ray Lazenby; son, Danny and Carol Knight; grandchildren and their spouses, Adam and Shelly Knight, Robin and Mark Wiser, Rick and Jennifer Mask, Beth and Zach Heath, Philip and Charity Knight; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Alice and Byron Williams, Bonnie and Johnny Burns, Rose Elaine and Junior Tipton, Barbara and William Colburn; and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service for Mrs. Stone will be held Monday, March 29, 2021, 11:00 A.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Tommy Foskey officiating. Friends are invited to meet with the family, at the funeral home prior to the service from 9:00 – 11:00 A.M.
CDC guidelines recommend social distancing (6 feet apart) and wearing of masks while in public. Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home requests that you observe these recommendations while in our funeral home attending visitations and/or services. In addition, gatherings are limited to 50 persons or less in our facility at one time. Please honor these restrictions for the safety of the family, yourself, and our staff.
