James Allen Cook of Cumming, passed away October 3, 2015, at the age of 68. Mr. Cook proudly served his country in the US Army for 10 years. His overseas tours included Korea, Germany and Vietnam, where he served in the 1st Armored Calvary Division. He was employed by Hercules for 17 years, and later worked 10 years for Evans Tool and Die, Inc. James loved to be outdoors working in his yard and vegetable garden, fishing and especially enjoyed cooking on the grill. He had a warm beautiful loving heart, easy laid back temperament and always believed in doing the right thing. Mr. Cook was of the Christian faith. A wonderful husband, father, step-father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Allen, Sr., and Mary (Ferris) Cook.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Diane Cook; daughters and sons-in-law, Karrian and Tim Catchings of Monticello, Melissa and Mike Hendrix of Monroe, Kelly Christian and fiancé, Dustin Young of Monticello, Layla Garrett of Alpharetta; grandchildren, T.J. Pugh, Daisy Hawkins, Sara Becknell, Kylea Cook, Jake Meier, James Thompson, Kala Thompson, Taylor Thompson; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Janie Barnett of Covington; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Cook will be held Wednesday, October 7, 2015, 4:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Dr. Adam Cooper officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, October 6, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM.
