Access RoadJames Lonnie Guthrie, Jr., of Oxford, passed away August 30, 2011, at the age of 86. Mr. Guthrie was an active member of Mt. Carmel Christian Church as long as his health allowed him to be. He retired from MARTA, with 44 years of service, and always enjoyed his work. He loved hunting rabbits and working in the yard. Mr. Guthrie was a loving and devoted husband and father. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen (Knopp) Guthrie; his parents, James Lonnie, Sr., and Marie (Weatherford) Guthrie; and his brother, Charles Guthrie.Survivors include his son, Mike Guthrie of California; sisters, Billie Rawlins of Tallahassee, FL, Delories Heyliger of Florissant, CO, Janelle Gibbs, June Hammond, both of Oxford; brothers, Barron Guthrie of Oxford, Phillip Guthrie of Clarksville, GA; host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.Funeral Services for Mr. Guthrie will be held Thursday, September 1, 2011, 2:00 PM, at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Frank Daws officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, from 1:00-2:00 PM.
