James Lee (Jim) Owensby

James Lee Owensby of Covington, passed January 16, 2011 at Abbey Hospice at the age of 78. Mr. Owensby served in the U.S. Army for 3 years, served in the Panama Canal Zone, and was released as a Sergeant 1st Class. He retired from A & P after 45 years. He loved nature, vegetable and flower gardening. Mr. Owensby enjoyed singing, fishing on Lake Sinclair and he played many card games. Mr. Owensby was a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Jake and Carrie Blalock Owensby.
Mr. Owensby is survived by his wife, Betty J. Owensby of Covington; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Lee Cole of Good Hope, Brenda Bowden of Social Circle, Joan and Larry Dean of Covington, Helen and Danny Wild of Monticello, Debra Faulkner, and Alicia Larsen, both of Covington; sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Conni Owensby of Temple, GA, Matt and Mary Lynn Owensby of Social Circle; 16 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Owensby will be held at 11 A.M., Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at the Access Road Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home,with Rev. Danny Sorrells officiating, and interment following at Lawnwood Memorial Park in Covington. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, January 19, 2011 from 5 - 8 P.M.
