James "Jimmy" Lamar Pound, 85, of Covington, GA, passed away at his home, May 25, 2016, surrounded by his family. Jimmy was born March 8, 1931, in Atlanta, to John Howard and Mae (Hill) Pound. He graduated from Columbus High in 1949, and furthered his education at Auburn University where he graduated in 1953. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Jimmy retired after a successful 30-year business career in sales and management in the newspaper industry. In retirement, he owned and operated a dry-cleaning business with three locations in Covington. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, for 25 years, and an Auxiliary volunteer at Piedmont Newton Hospital for several years.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Glenda Pound; daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Rick Heebner of Greensboro; son and daughter-in-law, James "Bud" Lamar, Jr., and Terri Pound of Macon; grandchildren, Chelsea Pound and James Lamar Pound, III, both of New Orleans, LA.
Funeral Services for Jimmy will be held Saturday, May 28, 2016, 4:00 PM, at the First United Methodist Church, in Covington, with Rev. Dr. Douglas Gilreath, Rev. Jan McCoy and Phil Stone officiating, and interment following in Covington City Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family Friday, May 27, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington. Flowers are accepted, or donations may be made, in Jimmy's honor, to the First United Methodist Church - General Budget Fund, 1113 Conyers Street SW, Covington, GA 30014.
