James “Jim” Hardeman Wiley, a Covington resident for over 30 years, passed away Sunday, February 6, 2022, at the age of 56. Jim was a licensed CPA and retired from the US Department of Education as a financial analyst. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Georgia. Jim was a “true rockhound” amateur lapidaring and gem explorer. Additionally, he was very handy and mechanical; using his skills to do DIY projects around the house. Jim liked to go fishing and camping. His favorite place was his cabin in the Great Smoky Mountains. Jim loved the peace and serenity of his mountain top living. He was a loving husband, dog father, and friend to all. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Jones Wiley, Sr.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Gayla McLendon Wiley; mother, Orion Johnson; sister, Eleanor Wiley; and brother, Jones Thomas “Tommy” Wiley, Jr; sisters-in-law, Rosa Smith (Bo), Mary Carlin (Keith); brother-in-law, David McLendon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
