James “Jim” Alfred Thomas, of Conyers, Georgia, passed away Saturday, September 2, 2023, at the age of 78. Mr. Thomas was a proud patriot and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After his time in the military ended, he carved out a career with John Deere in East Moline, Illinois. Mr. Thomas was a graduate of United Township High School, class of ’64, and earned his bachelor’s degree from St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa. He was a wonderful cook and phenomenal photographer. In times of relaxation, Mr. Thomas enjoyed traveling in his camper, especially to the Blue Ridge Mountains and key battleground sites from the revolutionary and civil wars. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Opal Thomas; and brother, Wayne Thomas.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia Ann Hanks-Thomas; stepsons, David Goben (Diane), Mark Goben (Sheryl); grandchildren, Kristen, Kurt, Zachary, Erin, Isaac, Andrew; great-grandchildren, Maisie, Sophie, Rosie, Olivia, Clara, Milo, Noah; sister, Lisa Murdaugh (Tony); and brothers, Dale Thomas, Craig Thomas.
A Memorial Service for Mr. Thomas will be held at a later date.
