Jarrett Ann Howard Hubbard, age 92 of Covington, Ga., stepped into the arms of her Savior on October 23, 2024.
Ann was born in Griffin, Ga. on February 29, 1932 to J.W. Howard and Susie Gilmer Howard. She was the youngest of four siblings. She took great pride in being a “leap year baby” and regularly reminded her family that she was ALWAYS going to be the youngest in “birthday years.” Upon graduating from Griffin High School in 1949, she went to work for Dundee Mills, and it was there that she met and married her handsome soldier, William Grady Hubbard in 1953. It was a marriage that lasted for 52 years. Ann and Grady had 2 children, Terri and Scott, and lived in Griffin until Grady launched a career with State Farm Insurance. This career change moved them to Covington, Georgia, where they resided for the remainder of their lives.
While primarily a “Stay at Home Mom” during her children’s early years, Ann was eventually employed at the Newton County Board of Education, where she held a secretarial position for several years. Upon retiring, she and Grady enjoyed traveling both internationally and domestically, as well as relaxing at their vacation home at Edisto Island, SC with family and close friends. She particularly loved “gadding about” with her beloved sister-in-law and travel buddy, Polly Howard.
Ann’s primary passion in life was her faithful service to her God and her church, Oxford Baptist. She loved teaching her adult Sunday School class as well as singing in the choir and serving on various committees. She particularly enjoyed planning Christmas parties for her Sunday School Class, and always made sure everyone went home with a handmade gift. Her commitment to giving to her church lasted until her homegoing.
While Ann’s faith in her God was her passion, her greatest JOY was found in her family. She was the family’s greatest cheerleader, attending countless ball games, concerts, graduations, weddings and any other activities her children and grandchildren were involved in. She was a strong encourager and made sure everyone knew how proud she was of their accomplishments. Most importantly, however, she was the family “Prayer Warrior.” It was commonly known that if there was a “prayer need,” “Grandmommie was on it!” Holidays at her house were “memory making events,” and it was these events that created family bonds that remain sweet and strong.
Ann was funny, quick-witted and had an easy laugh. Her benevolent generosity, and compassion toward others less fortunate, and her ability to see the “worth” in everyone is glowing example and legacy that has been passed down to her children and grandchildren. She was a kind, Godly woman who made a mark on the lives of countless others.
Ann is survived by her children, Terri Cooper, and Scott Hubbard, (Kim); grandchildren, Drew Cooper, Kyle Cooper (Corey), Lauren Luneckas, (Anthony), and Jarrett Hubbard; great-granddaughter Wells Luneckas; as well as several in-laws and nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express profound appreciation to the staff at Merryvale Assisted Living Facility for the “over and above” compassionate care and love that they have shown in the two and a half years Ann resided there; they became part of Ann’s family through their devoted kindness. Longleaf Hospice, Nurse Maria, and other staff helped make this difficult “end of life” journey as peaceful and dignified as it could possibly be, and the family cannot thank you enough for your expertise and guidance. You are truly “ earthly angels.”
