Jim McCart, age 78, school bus driver in Newton County for 50 years, died May 2, 2010, at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle. A resident of Oxford since 1955, he built his own home and it still served as his homeplace. He also built a goldfish pond in his yard, and enjoyed watching and raising the fish. Mr. McCart attended Solid Rock Baptist Church, where he was very active in the food ministry as long as his health permitted. He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and watching NASCAR racing. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Jane McCart; daughter, Pamela McCart Ballard of Oxford; sister, Lucille Skelton of Social Circle; sisters-in-law, Agneeze McCart, Rachel McCart, both of Oxford, Scharley McCart of Rutledge; grandson, Lane Ballard and wife Joy; great-grandson, Casey Ballard; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Mr. McCart will be held at 2:00 PM, May 5, 2010, at the Access Road Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, with Rev. Mike Franklin, officiating, and interment following at Lawnwood Memorial Park.
