Jimmy Ray Allen

Family and friends mourn the loss of Jimmy "Ray" Allen, 84, of Conyers, Georgia who passed away suddenly on September 1, 2012. Ray was born April 11, 1928 in Columbus, Georgia to the late Richard and Hallie Allen. Ray began his professional career with Georgia Power Company at the age of 18 and would continue with the company until retiring in 1987 after 40 years. During his employment, Ray entered the United States Army for four years and spent the majority of his time stationed in Germany. He reached the rank of Sgt. First Class before being honorably discharged. After his military service, he returned to his career at Georgia Power. Ray was the pillar and the foundation of our family. He was a loving father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all.
Ray is survived by his wife, best friend and soul mate of 32 years, Miriam; his children Amy Shealy of Snellville, Georgia; Miller Allen and wife Connie of Buckhead; Carol Allen and husband Jim of Social Circle; David Underwood of Conyers; 12 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren. He is survived by sibling Virginia Allen of Eatonton. He was also preceded in death by his son, Tracy Allen.
In celebration of Ray's life, a funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 5, 2012, 2:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell and Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Reese Sanders officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, Tuesday, September 4, from 6:00-8:00 PM. Donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Social Circle (BFKG), 195 W Cherokee Road, Social Circle, Georgia, 30025.
