Mr. Joseph Farmer, Jr., age 71, of Social Circle, passed away Sunday, February 3, 2019, after a long, hard-fought battle with mesothelioma. He was born June 19, 1947, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Joe Sr., and Ruth Farmer who have preceded him in death.
Mr. Farmer is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elaine R. Farmer; his daughters and sons-in-law, Dedi and Ray Torbich, Joanna and Corey Holcombe; son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Melissa Farmer; grandchildren, Abigail Moss, Jacob Farmer, Becca Moss, Eli Farmer, Hannah Holcombe, Caleb Holcombe, Hudson Holcombe; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Moss, Lindsey Moss, Tia Moss; brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Linda Farmer; sister, Nancy Henderson; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Farmer retired from Asbestos Workers Local 48, where he was a pipe insulator. He was an active and faithful church member after accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at age 25. Mr. Farmer was ordained as a deacon by Immanuel Baptist Church in 1974, and was a member of First Baptist Social Circle. He enjoyed traveling and watching his grandchildren play sports. Mr. Farmer was an avid reader and Georgia Bulldogs fan. He will be remembered most for his deep love and dedication for his family.
A Funeral Service for Mr. Farmer will be held Wednesday, February 6, 2019, 11:00 A.M., at First Baptist Church, 195 N. Cherokee Road, in Social Circle, with Rev. Mike Hardy officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park, Covington. He will lie in state one hour prior to service from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. Friends may visit with Mr. Farmer's family at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, Tuesday, February 5, from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M.
