Joe J. Johnston

Joe J. Johnston of Social Circle, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at the age of 88. Mr. Johnston proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, during the Korean Conflict, and was honorably awarded a Silver Star, Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. With a selfless heart, he continued serving his local community as DeKalb County Magistrate Judge, in the 70's, as well as a member of the Georgia General Assembly (House of Representatives) District 56, Post 2, also in DeKalb County. Lastly, he served as a bailiff for Judge Dally, in Social Circle. He was a devoted Christian, his family was priority, and he was always willing to help others. Mr. Johnston was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Hegwood Johnston; son, Steve Johnston; parents, John and Wilma Johnston.

Survivors include his daughters, Jan McElroy and Leigh Johnston; grandchildren, Brent Johnston, Amy McElroy, Ashley Johnston, Jena Sheltz, Bobby Brown; as well as great-grandchildren, Logan, Rileigh, Brantlee, Paislee, Jona, Brayden, Austin, Jace, Madelyn.

A Memorial Service for Mr. Johnston will be held Saturday, June 22, 2019, 1:00 P.M., at First Baptist Church of Social Circle, 195 North Cherokee Road, with Pastor Mike Hardy officiating.
