Joe Neil Durden, of Augusta, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2023, at the age of 86. Mr. Durden proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was a member of The Baptist Tabernacle and hunting club at High Falls. He grew up farming and hunting, and fishing. Mr. Durden was a hard worker, and his family was very important to him. He loved spending time with his family and grandkids. In addition, Mr. Durden was a Braves and Georgia Bulldogs fan, and especially a NASCAR fan always cheering on his favorite drivers, Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt, Sr.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Annette Durden; daughter, Donna Lynn Thompson; son, Edward Brown; parents, Ridgeway and Annie Lou Durden; and brother, Edsel Durden.
Survivors include his children, Archie Brown, Pam Snyder, Glenn Sigman, Lisa Marie Smith, Mary Jo Duplisea, Wayne Brown; grandson and caregiver Jeffrey Cowan; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Rita Baker; Brother, Jerry Durden; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Funeral Service for Mr. Durden will be held Sunday, July 30, 2023, 3:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Mike Hardy officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home Saturday, July 29, from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.
