John E. Garner, of Covington, passed away May 19, 2015, at the age of 80. He retired from the United States Army as a Chief Warrant Officer after 20+ years of honorable service to his country. In 1962 he became a Mason and was a member of Hiram Lodge No. 819 Ludwigsburg, Germany A.F. & A.M. Mr. Garner was a member of Eastridge Community Church and Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Kathy and working outside. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elsie Garner; parents, B.F., Sr. and Daisy Garner; sisters, Mildred Adams and Frances Henry.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Garner; daughter, Karen Parham; grandson, Branden Wayne Hudson; sister, Francine Smallwood; brothers and sisters-in-law, B.F. and Mary Garner, Doug and Carol Garner; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service for Mr. Garner will be held Friday, May 22, 2015, 11:00 AM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Scott Moore and Samuel Ozborn officiating. Interment will follow in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, May 21, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM.
